Working towards a fear-free school culture

In 2020, Jonny Uttley and John Tomsett published a book called Putting Staff First. Now they are offering to colleagues free downloadable resources based on that book to help school leaders do their job in a fear-free climate.

The rationale for the book was clear: A happy, healthy, motivated, highly trained, expert staff (who turn up, day-in, day-out) is the thing which is most likely to help students make good progress in their learning; to that end, schools should put staff first.

Why?

In 2023, only 59% of teachers expected to be teaching in three years’ time, a drop from 72% in 2019.
